Netley Abbey Infant School is a community school found in the beautiful Hamble Valley area to the east of Southampton in Hampshire. The historic village of Netley Abbey takes its name from an old abbey and was the site of the famous Royal Victoria Hospital - now a country park.

Originally opened in 1876 at Butlocks Heath, the school moved to the present building in 1984. The accommodation, after an extension, consists of 9 classroom areas, a computer suite, school hall, children’s kitchen and a library, and in January 2009 one of the classroom areas became the site of a fully integrated private pre-school - “Netley Abbey Pre-school.”

To ensure our children can keep active and enjoy the great outdoors, we have a large playground, climbing and play equipment, a science garden, a quiet wooded area and a covered all weather play area. We also have access to extensive playing fields situated next door on the Junior School site.

At Netley Abbey Infant School we believe all our children are unique and have different talents and gifts. We are developing our curriculum to ensure these gifts and talents are recognised, celebrated, developed and used to help the children learn.

We also believe that all children have the right to many things, ranging from “The right to a safe emotional environment,” to “The right to a good level of basic skills.” (The full set of children’s rights are shown on the opposite page.) As stated, we feel there needs to be a shared responsibility to ensure the children achieve these rights to a very high standard. This means that we work very closely with all members of our learning community, i.e. the children, parents, governors, the Junior School, local community groups and the local parish council to help them identify their responsibilities and roles in helping the children achieve our agreed set of rights.

We have tried to include all relevant information in this brochure, however, I am very happy for you to call and either ask further questions or book an appointment to talk to me or one of our wonderful staff.

We have also collected various quotes from the children and posted them in their relevent areas, remember to keep an eye out for them.

Kind regards
